Carpets made of silk

The main material used to manufacture this kind of carpets is silk. Till present time silk Persian carpets do not have analogs in the world. Main center of silkworm breeding is Gilan province located in the north of Iran and south of the Caspian Sea. After production of silk it is prepared for coloring, and only natural dyes are used for this. Natural silk is heavier than artificial one. Persian carpets made of natural silk have the following peculiarity: if we burn a peace of a natural carpet, it will turn into ashes. But if the carpet is made of artificial silk, it will melt. The city of Qom is traditionally considered one of the best Iranian cities in which silk carpets telling us about the traditions of Iranian crafts by means of their patterns are manufacture.
