Gabbe – one of the kinds of carpets which is made by such Iranian nationalities as loores and qhashqhaee. These carpets vary in size and are made of long pile the length of which sometimes comes up to one to three millimeters. The main and most important instrument for gabbe manufacturing is woolen or metal machine tools of different size which are put horizontally on the ground.
Comb, knife, hook and scissors are used as well.
The majority of gabbe weaves work on the floor and weaver without preliminary sketches choosing ornaments, patterns and colors during their work. This is the reason of pattern and colors diversity. Cotton thread or mixtures of cotton thread and goat wool are used for the warp of gabbe, and sheep wool is used for its weft thread.
The most qualitative wool for gabbe is produced in Fars province. Natural colors used in gabbe are extremely beautiful. They transmit the colors of sheep wool: white, black, grey, beige, light-yellow and brown. Main center for gabbe manufacturing is Fars province.
